Wednesday, June 16th 2004:

Though this morning started with sunshine there was a very fresh breeze in the air so we decided that it would not be much fun to be in a canoe today. So we started for the hike along the lake the lady at the reception suggested yesterday.
The trail runs along the lakeside to Gustafsfors 5 km ahead and then back again.

Planks leading over boggy passages

At the lakeside

Beavers!!

Lupines - to be found everywhere in central Sweden

In the afternoon we visited the retired farm horse at the roadside - he was very happy about the clover blossoms we picked for him!

In the evening OF COURSE we went on moose safari again. We hoped to find the moose cow from yesterday in the same place. Unfortunately she did not show up. After a longer search we decided to go back - but - we were lucky again! Beside the forest track on a little clearing another cow stood beneath the young trees. This one was even more patient than yesterday´s  so I could take a photo. Because of the dim light and the longer distance I just got it very blurred. But at least the shape can be recognized as a moose.

Back on the main road we had one more unexpected but real close encounter - just on the other side of the street another cow stood. And this was a real big one! Until now we had seen them only in high grass or amidst little trees, but it was right now when we realized HOW big these animals are. As soon as I saw her I turned right, stopped the engine and turned off the lights. I pulled out the camera and released the shutter - it flashed - ....
... and the display just said "Charge batteries!"... until I had changed the battery the cow moved into the woods. That´s life! Anyway, we had one picture already.

Very happy that we had seen 4 moose in the wild so far we fell in our beds this night. =>
